Welcome to Michiel to our Team and all the best to your masterproject on TOPAS THZ detectors.
Dr. Mickael L. Perrin wants to build tiny power plants from graphene nanoribbons that generate electricity from heat. His ambitious project won him one of the prestigious ERC Starting Grants from the EU and one of the 32 Eccellenza Professorial Fellowships by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). He will take up an assistant professorship at ETH Zurich – and continue his research at Empa. Press release
Together with teams from England and Germany, Empa researchers around Erwin Hack developed a monitoring system for aircraft components. In the future, minor damage could be detected and monitored during flight without the aircraft having to go into the hangar for maintenance. This will reduce operating costs and increase safety at the same time. More info.
Dr. Jordan Bouaziz has received the award for the best PhD thesis in "Societal issue: Information and Digital Society" by INSA Lyon.
Congratulations to Dr. Synhaivska to your successful Ph.D. defense today, entitled “Sensing metal ions-peptide and protein interfacial interactions”. =)
Three IRC projects have been granted today. The titles are: "Gate-Defined Quantum Confinement in Magic-Angle Twisted Bilayer Graphene", "Agile Robots for Tomorrow's Lab" and "Towards Metamaterial Quantum Dot Hybrids for Mechanically Tuneable Infrared Detectors"
Congratulations to Dr. Mickael Perrin for being awarded a SNSF Eccellenza
Congratulations to Dr. Mermoud for your successfull PhD defense!
Alessia Romio from Polytecnico di Milano joined our lab for her masterproject "Vertical hetero-structures for organic electronics" with Jacopo Oswald. Welcome to our group and we wish you a joyful and productive winter-time :-)
Samuel Singh, master student from RWTH Aachen started his project in the beginning of the month and will stay with us until february. He will work on a project in Machine learning with Mickael Perrin. Welcome to our group!
