CV

CL is Head of the Advanced Processing & Additive Manufacturing of Metals group in the Laboratory for Advanced Materials Processing. He studied Materials Science and Engineering in Saarbrücken, Germany, and Luleå, Sweden (M.Sc. 2000), and obtained his PhD from the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, in 2004. In addition, he is adjunct lecturer for Advanced Metallurgy, Metals Processing and Additive Manufacturing at EPFL and He was adjunct lecturer for high performance materials at the University of Kaiser-lautern from 2005 until 2014.
CL’s R&D work has been focusing on the simulation-assisted development/optimization and micro-structure design of structural alloys and metal-matrix composites, mainly for beam-based additive manufacturing and joining processes, as well as on the experimental characterization of the influence of advanced processing technologies on the microstructure and (thermo-)mechanical properties of structural alloys. His work has received several distinctions at international conferences and other awardssuch as theEmpa Innovation Award 2014 for the development of novel Fe-based shape memory alloys for civil engineering applications. He is member of the directory board of the Swiss Association for Materials Science and Technology (SVMT, since 2012) and member of the Expert Group “Additive Manufacturing” of the Swiss Academy for Technical Sciences (SATW, since 2016). He is the author/co-author of more than 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings and holds 3 patents (Sept. 2020)
