About us

The focus of the Coating Competence Center (CCC) are advanced coating and printing technologies. The mission of the CCC is to transfer ideas and results from the lab into the industry. The means to complete this mission are creative and experienced people from industry and science working together in cross-functional teams as well as pilot-scale machines equipped with sophisticated process monitoring that can produce functional prototypes and demonstrators using industrial processes and standards.
People are our key asset

Committed people are key to every success. This is even more true in the context of research activities. Creativity, knowledge and experience combined with lateral thinking are as well needed as the dedication to understand phenomena and root causes and the ambition to find solutions for todays challenges and those to come.

Our goal is to attract the best talents by offering them an excellent environment to deploy their skills and reach their targets. We work in cross-functional teams and are used to work with national and international partners from science and industry. The team that operates the machines in the CCC are coming from different departments and labs and are using the facilities of the CCC in their research activities and projects.

State-of-the-art equipment

In the context of developing advanced coating technologies, state-of-the-art equipment is essential and often a precondition for understanding the manufacturing processes and for achieving the next level of product functionality and performance. Beyond the pilot-scale coating machines that are described in the section Technologies, excellent analytical and testing equipment is needed to fully understand the processes and the resulting product performance. Such equipment is available at Empa's facilities and infrastructure.
