Markus Rottmar is group leader (cells at surfaces group) in the Lab for Biointerfaces. After his graduation in molecular biology from the University of Innsbruck in 2006, he received his PhD from ETH Zurich in 2011 for his work on cell-material interaction at Empa. Following two postdoctoral positions at Empa and the University Hospital Zurich, he moved to Empa in 2014 for his current position.
Markus Rottmar is interested in understanding how cells and tissues interact with biomaterials and how materials can be tailored to steer a desired cellular response. Being intrigued by the complex signaling pathways involved, he is also passionate about advanced imaging modalities including microscopy and magnetic resonance imaging.
