Dr. Pascal Ruffieux

Group Leader Carbon Nanomaterials
Pascal Ruffieux received his PhD in 2002 at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) and joined the Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) in 2003. As Group Leader of the Carbon Nanomaterials Research Group he is focusing on the surface-supported synthesis of atomically-defined carbon nanostructures and their electronic and optical characterization. He has a strong background in scanning probe microscopy and spectroscopy (STM and STS) as well as photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES, XPS, XPD). He received several awards such as the Charmey Prize of the SAOG and the Empa Research Prize and is currently board member of the Swiss Physical Society. He has given numerous invited talks at international conferences and has published more than 80 peer-reviewed papers.
