New mandate for Empa Director
Tanja Zimmermann to take over as President of the Board of Technopark Zurich Foundation
Empa Director Tanja Zimmermann has been elected as the new President of the Board of Trustees of the Technopark Zurich Foundation – and brings her broad experience in research, innovation and technology transfer.

The election of Tanja Zimmermann marks the first time a woman will chair the strategic steering committee of Technopark Zurich. She succeeds Lothar Thiele, who has chaired the Board of Trustees since 2019 and is stepping down following his retirement. The Board is responsible for the strategic management and further development of the innovation location of the same name. It creates the framework conditions for start-ups, research institutions and companies to work together to drive innovation at Technopark Zurich.
Tanja Zimmermann brings her many years of experience in interdisciplinary research, innovation promotion and technology transfer to the committee. As Director of Empa since 2022, she has headed a research institute that works closely with start-ups and industry partners to develop sustainable solutions for key challenges of our time. “I am very much looking forward to this new role and the opportunity to help shape the development of the Technopark ecosystem at a strategic level,” Zimmermann says. “Technopark Zurich is a place where visionary ideas and scientific progress meet entrepreneurial drive – this dynamic inspires me.”
