Bio

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher affiliated with the Urban Energy System Lab at Empa. Before joining Empa, I researched as a Visiting Ph.D. student at the Intelligent Maintenance and Operations Systems (IMOS) lab, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland for one year, and collaborated with Professor Nicola Gatti at Politecnico di Milano, Italy, for six months. My academic background includes obtaining a Ph.D. and Master's degree in Electrical Engineering both from University of Tehran, Iran.

My primary research focus lies at the intersection of diverse disciplines, encompassing Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), game theory, and mechanism design, with specific applications to the field of building control and the Internet of Things (IoT). In particular, my expertise extends to the application of advanced algorithms in addressing challenges related to smart buildings, smart grids, and IoT. I am equally enthusiastic about theoretical research and the practical implementation of AI and game theory in various projects. I am continually exploring potential avenues where these technologies can enhance and optimize systems, contributing to both academic advancements and real-world solutions.

Ongoing research project

Euthermo Project

P
roject title: Scalable deep reinforcement learning algorithms for building climate control and energy management (Euthermo) (Jan 2022 - Dec 2024)
Funding body: SDSC

The main goal of this project is to develop scalable and transferable deep RL algorithms for building climate control and energy management and to validate them in the living labs on the NEST demonstration platform at our campus.
