Inauguration of Empa's move methanation plant
Decarbonizing mobility and industry is one of the central challenges of our time. Technologies for CO₂ capture and utilization play a key role in many applications. One promising approach is methanation, which enables the replacement of fossil fuels in existing infrastructures with renewable energy.
As part of the move-MEGA project, Empa has developed an innovative sorption-enhanced methanation process and has successfully implemented it in a demonstrator plant at "move". This plant features high load flexibility due to sorption enhancement. Hydrogen is generated through onsite PEM electrolysis and CO₂ is supplied by direct air capture (DAC). All plants are connected by a waste heat utilization system.
At the upcoming event, you will gain valuable insights into the methanation approaches from Empa, PSI, and OST. Additionally, a panel discussion will highlight how synthetic methane can contribute to achieving negative emissions. After the discussions, there will be an aperitif and the opportunity to visit the plant. The event will be held in German.
We are pleased to invite you to the official inauguration of this plant:
📅 Date: June 16, 2025
📍 Location: Empa Campus Dübendorf
Take this opportunity to discuss current developments in synthetic energy sources and innovative approaches to CO₂ reduction with experts from industry, the public sector and research.
