The workshop “Mechanisms and Modelling of Waste/Cement Interactions” focuses on the understanding and modelling of the processes responsible for the stabilisation of hazardous and radioactive wastes in cementitious systems, and on the use of mineral wastes as cementitious (raw) materials. Like the very successful earlier meetings in this series of workshops (Meiringen, 2005; Le Croisic, 2008; Ghent, 2013; Murten, 2016; Karlsruhe, 2019; Prague, 2023), the 7^th workshop on Mechanisms and Modelling of Waste/Cement Interactions intends to bring together world-leading and junior scientists from the different branches of the research community.

The workshop aims at exchanging state-of-the-art knowledge on mineralogical, chemical and physical processes of waste/cement interactions.

  Modelling, multiscale-approaches, alternative cements
• Cement/Rock/Soil Interfaces and Transport
  Cement/host rock, transport processes, and modelling
• Recycling of Mineral Wastes in Cement Production
  Raw material replacement, supplementary cementitious materials, substitution potential, and eco-efficiency
• Interaction of Cement with Waste Constituents
  Radwaste, toxic waste, metal binding mechanisms, organic compounds
• Nanoscale Characterisation and Molecular Dynamics
  Methods at large scale facilities, advanced methods
• Deterioration and Leaching
  Alkali-aggregate reaction, carbonation, sulfate interaction, ageing processes, natural analogues

• March 2025: 2^nd announcement and abstract submission
• December 2025: start of registration
• June 22–24, 2026: Workshop in Bern

Abstracts: Authors will be invited to submit a one-page abstract for oral and poster presentations.

In the centre of Bern, just a few steps from Bern main train station, with a spectacular view to the Alps and the medieval town (UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Site). Bern is well connected to the European train system, has a small airport, and is easily reached by train from Zurich, Geneva and Basel airports.
