Advancing Spectroscopy while Mastering State-of-the-Art Analytical Instrumentation


The Division for Advanced Analytical Technologies (Lab 502)  is part of the  Department for Mobility, Energy and Environment. We focus on developing  methods for the chemical characterization of materials in the industry, society and environment.

Our advanced analytical instrument-pool is utilized in the investigation of particulate and/or chemical compunds, e.g. emissions, associated with mobility or industrial activity. In particular we are leaders in the characterization of  persistent organic pollutants and their environmental cycle. Further, we have a strong expertise in the  ultratrace analysis.

On the other hand, our research is for innovating and pushing the limits of state-of-the-art spectroscopy. For instance, we have developed a unique extreme ultraviolet laser for nano-scale imaging and spectroscopy, with high temporal resolution. Short-wavelenegth spectroscopy is utilized in projects on artificial photosynthesis, surface chemistry, semiconductor defect inspection, and bio-medical.
