Aircraft engine emission measurement  (BAZL Project)
Recent development of the non-volatile particulate matter emission standard by the International Civil Aviation Organization signals growing awareness of the aviation impacts. We in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Aviation (FOCA) have built a world-unique system in SR Technics near the Zürich airport. This system allows us to measure emissions from in-service commercial aircraft engines. During the project “Particulate and gas phase emission measurement of aircraft engine exhaust” sponsored by FOCA, we focused on method development and established the repeatability and reliability of our measurements. A second project “EMissions of Particulate and gaseous pollutants in AIRcraft engine Exhaust (EMPAIREX)” sponsored by FOCA started in November 2015. We look forward to contributing more results to better understand the environmental and health impacts of civil aviation.
