Kristina Orehounig is head of the Laboratory of Urban Energy Systems at Empa and co-leading the group of Multi-Energy Systems within the lab. She is also lecturing at the department of Architecture at ETH Zurich, Switzerland.

Her research interests include the development of sustainable concepts in building design and operation, the integration of renewable energy systems, and the simulation and optimization of buildings and urban energy systems. Together with her team, she is developing modelling strategies in relation to multi-energy systems starting from the building to the district up to higher scales. Besides being active in a number of national and international research projects, she currently leads the work package on multi-energy systems in the Swiss Competence Center of Energy Research (SCCER) FEEB&D. She is an active member of the International building performance simulation association (IBPSA) and the Swiss society of engineers and architects (SIA).

She received her PhD degree from the Technical University of Vienna, Austria.
