Polymer aerogels

We also synthesize (bio)polymer based aerogels in addition to our work on silica or silica-hybrid aerogels. These aerogels typically have better mechanical properties compared to silica based materials, but often at the cost of higher thermal conductivities and the need for supercritical drying. Work is ongoing to find the optimum solvent system for a given polymer matrix [1]. We have also recently reviewed the entire field of biopolymer aerogels for Angewandte Chemie
