ASTRA 2011/012_OBF Development of a selfhealing Asphalt Road via Induction Heating

We study the use of an asphalt concrete with embedded metallic fibers. Thanks to the Joule principle, we use an alternating electrical current to induce heat in the fibers in order to produce a temperature increase in the mixture and close the crack. This system is studied for use as a preventive maintenance method to increase lifetime of asphalt concrete pavements.
