Shantanu Mishra

Shantanu Mishra obtained BS degree in Engineering Physics from the National Institute of Technology, Calicut in India, and MS degrees in Applied and Engineering Physics and Materials Science from the TU Munich, Germany and the Université de Montpellier, France under the Erasmus Mundus program of the European Commission. For his master thesis, he worked at the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering at the Paul Scherrer Institut, studying the structure and magnetic ordering in non-stoichiometric rare-earth nickel oxides via bulk magnetometry and neutron scattering. This was followed by a short stay at Sorbonne, Paris after which he joined the nanotech@surfaces group at Empa as a PhD student in April 2016. He is currently focused on studying novel graphene nanostructures via scanning tunneling microscopy.
Fields of interest

Electronic properties of open-shell graphene nanostructures and graphene nanoribbons, non-hexagonal ring topologies in graphene nanostructures and novel STM imaging modes.
