Dr. Gino Günzburger
Gino Günzburger studied Nanoscience at the University of Basel and received his Masters Degree in 2011. Subsequently he did his PhD studies at the same university, in the group of Prof. Ernst Meyer under the supervision of Dr. Thilo Glatzel, where he first introduced the procedures to fabricate reproducible dye sensitised solar cells into a group whose main focus usually lies on the examination of single molecules on single-crystal surfaces in ultra-high vacuum. In a second step the active layers of the solar cells were examined by Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy (KPFM), not only in air, but also in liquid environments such as water and a simplified version of the electrolyte usually used in dye sensitised solar cells.
After his PhD Gino spent a year at the “Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie“ in the group of Prof. Martha Lux-Steiner, where he worked with Dr. Marin Rusu on the extension of the UHV-KPFM system and on KPFM measurements on hybrid solar cells and GaAs/InGaAs core shell nano-rods.
Since 2017 Gino is part of the nanotech@surfaces group at EMPA where he studies hexagonal boron nitride on different metal substrates such as Rh(111) and Pt(111) by STM and KPFM.
