Elia Turco

PhD Student

Elia Turco obtained his BS and MS degrees at the Università degli Studi di Trieste, Italy. After finishing his bachelor in Physics, he studied Condensed Matter Physics, focusing on the experimental aspects. For his master thesis, he worked at the ALOISA beamline at the Elettra synchrotron, studying the on-surface synthesis of boroxine based nanostructures via photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS, ARUPS and NEXAFS).  He joined the nanotech@surfaces group at Empa as a PhD student in March 2020. In his PhD project, the on-surface synthesis of molecular spin chains and lattices based on 1D and 2D covalently linked organic and metal-organic ribbons and networks under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions will be explored, using surface scientific characterization tools such as scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS), non-contact atomic force microscopy (nc-AFM) and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES).
