EU approves Empa’s «COFUND» application

Financial windfall for young scientists

Feb 13, 2017 | MICHAEL HAGMANN
On February 2nd the EU approved Empa’s «COFUND» application for financial support to the tune of more than €3.5 million, thereby securing partial funding for 50 post-doc positions at Empa over the next five years within the framework of the EU’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions. Particularly pleasing is the fact that of the 68 funding applications made in total from all over Europe, Empa’s was given the highest mark –an assessment of 99.2 points out of a possible 100.

Seven years ago Empa first made an application for the co-financing of postdoctoral fellowships, which at the time won support for 57 such positions. Over the next five years a total of 50 postdoctoral candidates will be able to apply for positions funded by the programme which has just been approved, with a total budget of €11 million (to which the EU will contribute approximately one third). The first of three calls for applications from interested postdocs will be made in June 2017, the others one and two years later.
