In the last years many effect studies using ENMs were published and the possible risks of nanomaterials is today more than ever up for debate. Actually, the difficulty is in the missing comparability and the low significance of many studies. Unfortunately, validated and accepted testing methods for nanomaterials are still missing. Recently, we could show that commonly used cell viability assays may interfere with the ENMs and provoke false positive as well as false negative results, which restrain a reliable risk assessment of ENMs. Our aim is to develop, in a national and / or international framework, a standardized and validated testing strategy for ENMs, which will then be accessible for ENMs producer, distributors and other stakeholders. |
