COST Action 530 "Sustainable Materials Technology - Life Cycle Inventories for Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing Processes"

This is the official Homepage of COST ACTION 530. This Action is an open framework for an European co-operation in the field of LCA and related methods. It will last until June 2006 and it represents a long term concerted action in the interdisciplinary field of LCA.

General Introduction

More than twelve European countries have already confirmed their participation in the Action. Others are intending to participate. The COST Action 530 is a great chance for European institutions concerned with basic and applied LCA research. COST provides a funded platform for scientific exchange and networking. The main objective of this action is

  • to bridge the gap between fundamental LCA research and the needs of industry for an operational framework and model.

The goal is to increase knowledge about the environmental impacts of manufacturing processes in order

  • to develop and apply environmentally conscious processes,
  • to reduce environmental impacts and costs, and
  • to take knowledge based decisions.

Institutions can contribute to the Action by sending expressions of interest to the Management committee. By now expression of interests related to different technologies and sectors have been received, among them the powder technologies, metal, chemical, waste water, waste management, construction and energy sectors. The expressions are evaluated and allocated to working groups. Working group meetings will take place periodically and enable an intensive networking. Other means of implemantation of the Action are short term scientific missions and joint projects.

Interested institutions from already participating countries are invited to send expressions of interest. Not yet participating countries should be encouraged to support the Action.
