Evaluation of aerosol road traffic emissions in Switzerland by chasing experiments and dynamometric tests (2004 -)

Mobile laboratory of Paul Scherrer Institute

Combination of car chasing and dynamometric tests will allow to determine real-world and quantitative emission measurements of vehicles in various driving conditions (e.g. different speeds, different road gradients). We will collect information of the size distribution, of aerosol surface, aerosol number concentration, aerosol composition, soot concentration, etc.

Test bench at Empa
A goal is to characterise particles of the exhaust pipe.
Car exhaust from several cars will be analysed by various instruments at the test bench of the EMPA.  For car chasing the mobile laboratory of the Paul Scherrer Institute will be redesigned for this project and used to chase cars on a test track. Finally, we also want to focus on the authenticity of test bench measurements by using our results of the test track.
