Reliability Centre (ZZT)

About us

The Centre for Reliability advises in questions of reliability and performs tests and inspections. It operates a knowledge and equipment pool for industrial companies and collaborates on research. Its aim is to give customers fast access to state-of-the-art test methods.

  • Reliability: Reliability and failure analyses; preparation of development guidelines; performance of qualification tests
  • Knowledge transfer: Lecturing at the ETH on reliability of equipment and systems, and testability and failure analysis of electronic circuits; organisation of conferences and courses
  • Research: Direction of and participation in national and international research projects

Services of the ZZT industrial pool

  • For a fixed annual contribution industrial companies receive access to a contractually defined range of services, admission to three information conferences a year and the option of participating in research projects.

Nanoworld Reliability Network

  • Reliability theory and physics of failure of macro/microworld are only partially applicable to nano world. Many reliability issues must be treated differently for nano systems compared to micro or macro systems. Nanoworld reliability, a research topic of ZZT, addresses the reliability of nano-structures and devices by different approaches:
  • International Nanoworld Reliability Network
  • TOP NANO 21 funded project: Reliability of Nanostructured Materials and Devices
  • Operation of a focused ion beam instrument (FIB) and other instruments for characterisation of nanostructures
