In our Polymers & Processing group we develop synthetic fibers with distinct functionalities in new combinations. Therefore, we use special polymers and complex spinneret cross-sections for mono-, bi- and tricomponent fibers.
- The functionalities we look into primarily are: biocompatibility, odor inhibition, drug release, conductivity and flame retardancy.
- Our pilot melt spinning plant enables us to produce fibers that consist of two and more different polymers, where fiber cross-section and profile are variable. We process polymers and additives (including nanoparticles) produced in-house and externally, from compounding to melt-spinning and drawing, to the point of prototype fibers.
- With the help of electrospinning technology we produce non-wovens made of directional nanofibers to be used for sensor and tissue engineering applications.
- Our proprietary developments like a continuous fiber dip-coating apparatus and a thermo-mechanical 360° embossing device enable us to provide fibers with specific properties.
- In analytics, we apply tools like scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS) and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD).
