Abstract This paper describes the different stages of development and the problems encountered while designing and manufacturing an innovative prototype pylon for high power transmission lines. The pylon is made of a high-strength spun concrete matrix (centrifugal casting process), which is prestressed and reinforced with carbon fibre reinforced plastic elements.
